Clew connects what you teach, test, simulate and grade in clinic, so you can follow every competency through your curriculum and answer “where is this standard taught, and how much?” in one place.
A dashboard for everyone involved
Filter by cohort, clinic group, student, faculty, course or year.
Courses and sessions tagged Introduced, Reinforced or Mastered, with hours.
ExamSoft items mapped through your categories, with counts and averages.
Daily sim exercises and practical exams, with pass rates.
Patient experiences and CAP attempts graded chairside, with procedure counts.
DASHBOARDS
Everyone signs in to the same data and sees what matters to their role, from the dean's program view to a student's next CAP.
For the dean and associate deans for academic and clinical affairs.
For clinic, simulation and course faculty.
For curriculum coordinators and academic affairs staff.
For dental and dental hygiene students, on any device.
THE PROBLEM
Curriculum maps
Spreadsheets that go stale the week after they're finished.
Exam results
Locked in ExamSoft reports nobody connects to the curriculum.
Clinic grade sheets
Paper or one-off forms, counted by hand toward requirements.
Calibration binders
Sign-in sheets that show faculty attended, not that they agree.
FEATURES
A standard × course heat map. Switch between hours, exam items and clinical experiences, show gaps only, and click any cell to follow its thread.
Students self-assess on their phone and route it to faculty, who see the self-rating beside their own. CAPs unlock once students have enough qualifying experiences.
CDT code, tooth and surfaces are recorded with the self-assessment and count toward requirements the moment faculty grade. No separate log.
Inter-rater agreement, each grader's leniency or strictness, and test-tooth exercises that keep uncalibrated graders off high-stakes rubrics.
Quick, clean rubrics for daily sim work. For practicals, two faculty grade independently from a random queue, seeing only a candidate code.
For each standard, Clew assembles the evidence, renders the charts and drafts a narrative from your data only. You review, then export to Word or PDF.
GRADING AT THE CHAIR
FACULTY CALIBRATION
CODA expects programs to document calibration. Clew turns every double-graded experience and test-tooth exercise into evidence.
AGREEMENT
Weighted Cohen's κ, first-pass and post-regrade calibration rates, and criterion-level agreement.
CALIBRATION RULE
Set a maximum score gap per rubric. Graders who exceed it regrade once; results still apart are flagged.
TEST TEETH
Faculty grade typodont specimens against a reference. A pass lasts six months, with a reminder before it expires.
GUARDRAILS
Block uncalibrated graders from high-stakes rubrics, or flag their grades. Your program chooses.
CURRICULUM MAP
Start with CODA standards for predoctoral or hygiene programs, the ADEA competencies and a topic keyword list, all editable. Upload courses by CSV, tag sessions with emphasis and hours, and see every standard from D1 to D4.
Competency-based or EPA program? Clew starts you with an editable framework for either.
INTEGRATIONS
axiUm stays your patient record and ExamSoft stays your exam platform. Clew is where clinical work is graded and the curriculum comes together.
Upload your item and category export today, or connect through the API adapter. Unmatched categories map to your tags.
Open Clew from inside Canvas with single sign-on (LTI 1.3), bring graded Canvas assignments and outcomes into the assessment layer, and send rubric scores straight to the Canvas gradebook.
Bring procedure codes and dates from your EHR into Clew, so students don't record them twice.
No patient health information. Clew stores only a de-identified encounter reference, never patient names or charts.

ABOUT CLEW
A clew (say it “kloo”) has two old meanings, and we built Clew on both. First understand how everything in your program connects, then act on it with intention.
IN MYTH · THE THREAD
A clew is a ball of thread. Ariadne gave Theseus one to unwind as he entered the labyrinth, so he could follow it back out. It’s also where the word “clue” comes from. Clew helps you see what connects to what in a complex curriculum, and where the gaps are.
AT SEA · THE CLEW OF A SAIL
The clew is the lower back corner of a sail, where the line that controls it attaches. Pull in or ease out at the clew, and you shape the whole sail to the wind. Clew is where you take hold of a whole program and adjust it with evidence, not guesswork.
WHY IT MATTERS
Curriculum data is only worth collecting if it helps the people behind it: the faculty who teach, the students who learn, and the patients they will care for. Every dashboard in Clew is built with them in mind.

It drafts, using only your Clew data, and marks anything it can't know for your program to confirm. Your associate deans edit, approve and export every word.
